The Marsala GE280: Designing a Rear Cabin Around How a Family Actually Travels

The best commissions at Arcade begin with a conversation about how someone actually lives. Not what they want the car to look like, but how they will use it, who will be in it, and what the journey should feel like from the inside. The rear cabin of the Marsala GE280 is a good example of what that conversation produces.

The Brief

In a custom G-Wagen build, the rear cabin tells you a lot about the person it was made for. The client arrived with a precise vision for how his family would use the car, and that clarity informed every decision in the space. He wanted a full-width bench seating three, forward-facing, with headrests and room for child seats, configured around how a family lives now rather than where the vehicle began.

While some clients arrive with a mood board or a reference point, this client arrived with a clear plan. The team's job was simply to execute it.

The Bench

The bench itself was sourced from another G-Wagen.

"When the original engineering is this good, you work with it rather than around it."

The result is a bench upholstered end to end in Palomino leather, in keeping with every other surface in the cabin.

One detail that required particular care was the child seat integration. Arcade fitted an ISOFIX mechanism directly into the bench, allowing child seats to lock in securely and remain fully safety compliant. It is the kind of detail that becomes essential when you are building for a young family, and one the client had factored into his vision from the start.

The Craft Detail

The Marsala GE280 also introduced a new flooring material to the Arcade workshop. The cabin floor uses a sea deck surface, a rubber compound used in marine environments that is both hardwearing and easy to maintain. It was a practical decision driven by how the family intended to use the car, and one that has since generated strong feedback from clients who value longevity as much as finish.

The Result

The result is a rear cabin that feels considered from every angle. Arcade COO Felix Timmer notes that forward-facing seating is among the most practical advantages of this configuration, particularly on longer journeys where the difference becomes most apparent. Combined with proper headrests, ISOFIX child seat integration, and enough space that a long drive becomes something the whole family looks forward to, the finished cabin is a precise reflection of the brief that produced it.

The Marsala GE280 is a military classic reconfigured for the way people actually want to travel today. Taking something designed for function and making it genuinely luxurious is, as Arcade CEO Rishav Konoria puts it, exactly the kind of project the team finds most rewarding.

Every commission at Arcade begins long before anything is built. The brief for the Marsala GE280 rear cabin was not simply a set of specifications. It was a considered account of how one family intended to live with this car, and the build that followed was a response to that in full. The best briefs, in the end, are never really about the car. They are about the life it fits into.

Commission a Build

Those considering a bespoke G-Wagen commission of their own are invited to begin a conversation with the Arcade team. Every build starts with the same questions: how do you want to use this car, and what should it feel like to be inside it.
